"Where Feathers are Always Flying" |
|
You’ll find Pegasus Place situated on eight and a
half acres in a secluded valley nestled in the midst
of the rolling hills of Middle Tennessee. Our tiny
burg is called Beechgrove and is located along
Interstate 24 about an hour Southeast of Nashville.
The farm is named in memory of Babe, a 30+ year old
Tennessee Walker, whom we lost in October 2009. Our
old lady mare had such a sweet temperament and the
gentlest demeanor. She was dearly loved by all who
knew her. When it came time to say “goodbye,” we
also found it necessary to explain her passing to
Gentry Anne, one of our grand daughters. How do you
tell a four year old that one of her dearest animal
friends has left her forever? Since “G” knew that
Babe had been sick, we told her an Angel had offered
her wings to our sweet old mare. With those lovely
new wings, Babe flew all the way to Heaven to be
well again though that meant she had to leave us.
“G’s” beautiful blue eyes filled with tears -- so
very sad that her friend was gone forever. Then, a
little smile appeared, and she said, “Babe is a
Pegasus, MaMaMa, just like your Painted Pony.” Thus,
from our beloved Babe and our darling Gentry Anne,
Pegasus Place became the farm name for which we had
been searching.
Judith became interested in the breed in 2009 as she
was looking for a companion for Babe. She went to a
Gypsy Vanner Show and returned home raving about the
beauty, stature, and sweet, sweet nature of the
horses she had seen. After losing Babe in the Fall
of 2009, we decided to put a hold on everything
until we could sort out our feelings and decide the
direction we wished to pursue. Ironically, there was
never any thought as to the breed, for the Gypsy
Vanners had stolen our hearts. We spent the first
half of 2010 visiting breeders to whom we were
referred and whose horses seemed to better fit the
nucleus of the breeding program we wished to begin.
Lark was the first mare selected, but Sanibel became
our first resident mare. At the time Lark was
purchased, she was with foal and didn’t come to
Pegasus Place until her filly, Larkspur, was born in
July 2010. Judy continues to look for another mare
to fill out our “little herd” that will offer us an
exciting array of possibilities insofar as future
foals are concerned.
We know what difficulties you face when trying to
select your first, or next, Gypsy; therefore, our
goal is to assist you in every way possible to find
the right horse to meet your specific needs and
situation.
We were encouraged to find so many
honest, willing breeders who gave hours of their
time to help us make our first selections. We are
committed to help others who want to join the
faithful of one of the newest and most exciting
horse breeds in the world.
